Do you think you should be happier than you are, considering all that you have?” Pursuing the nagging feeling that something was missing in her life, Anna Yusim, a Stanford trained psychiatrist living in New York City, began to explore the pieces of spirituality that can help us live more happy, meaningful lives. This book is everything she’s learned over fifteen years, backed up with science.

I picked this book up based on the title alone and really appreciated the blend between spirituality and practicality- you won’t find any advice to seek out crystals or smudge your house with sage. Instead, Yusim walks you through three steps: aligning with your authentic self, understanding and taking your personal power back, and feeling connected. It’s a deep, thought-provoking process that’s almost guaranteed to have you questioning some big things- but exactly when you need it, Yusim provides frequent journaling and meditation exercises for you to stop and work through what you just read.

It’s far too easy to get sucked into the external pursuits of life, expecting to get this, going there, or being  _______ will lead us to happiness. Yusim’s Fulfilled is a great reminder that there’s more to life than the shallow stuff, and you’re never too far away from a more meaningful life if something feels off.
